What does generative engine optimization cover?

Generative engine optimization for when you want the site named after someone asks an AI.

Answer engine optimization (AEO) shapes a passage that a snippet, an AI Overview, or Perplexity can lift. Generative engine optimization (GEO) makes a fact specific enough for ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot to cite. Both read the same URLs. A mention is still the model's decision.Discuss this capability

The work

The model writes the sentence.

The offer that circulates is a mention. Your name in every AI answer. A featured snippet on request. ChatGPT recommending the company. An answer engine lifts a passage that is already short and direct. A generative system may cite a fact it can check, and it may skip the page. We cannot place the sentence it writes. AEO is the shape: a question, the answer, then the detail. GEO is the fact inside that shape, the company, the service, and a claim you can stand behind, written the same way on every URL. Search engine optimization puts that URL into Google and Bing. A site with no page for the query starts there. A site that already answers the question, and wants the answer box or the citation, starts here. The engineers who ship the content model write the blocks. A dashboard that scores AI visibility is a report. The sentence on the URL is the work.

Best for Sites that already say something true, and want that truth usable in an answer box or an AI citation.

Core capability

  • Answer blocks for snippets and overviews
  • Citation-ready facts, written once
  • Schema that matches the visible sentence
  • The same URLs search already uses

What moves forward

  • A question, a short answer, and the URL that holds both
  • A fact a person can open and check
  • One wording of that fact across the site

How we approach it

Same pages. Two jobs.

  1. 01

Separate the answer from the fact

AEO is a passage a system can quote without the rest of the page. GEO is a fact that stays true when the model shortens it. The same slogan pasted into both is not a strategy.

  2. 02

Write the question a person asks

Each answer block names one question, leads with the answer, then the condition, then the longer page. A heading that only restates the brand, with the answer three screens down, leaves an AI Overview with nothing to lift.

  3. 03

Put a checkable fact on the URL

Name, service, and the claim sit on the page a person can open. A number has its source on that same URL. A sentence we cannot defend does not go on the page, because a citation of a vague claim is not a lead.

  4. 04

Keep one version of the truth

The homepage, the service page, and the answer block agree. A second run of the model, or a second engine, finds the same fact. Schema repeats the visible sentence. A doorway page written only to chase a citation does not ship.
